The Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services announced the temporary suspension Tuesday, July 28.

“The Home is immediately taking necessary precautions and is performing full-house testing with support from the Massachusetts National Guard, and temporarily suspending all visitation,” EOHHS said.

The infected individual has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Holyoke Soldiers’ Home was the site of a fatal COVID-19 outbreak in March resulting in the deaths of 76 veteran residents. The state has since conducted an investigation into how the disease was able to rip through the care facility. Blame was placed on Home leadership and Superintendent Bennett Walsh was put on administrative leave before being fired.

Walsh is now striking back at the state’s account of the outbreak, saying that he sought help from the state and was denied.

Meanwhile, families of the Soldier’s Home VOCID-19 victims have filed a $176 million class-action suit against the Home to atone for the lives lost.
